8 Effective Ways to Treat Excessively Dry Skin
Question: Is it okay to use moisturizing lotion/body lotion on a dry scalp? bc tomorrow i have school and i dont want to go to school with a head full of flakes. buying head & shoulders tomorrow after school.
Answer:: You can, but it probably won't do any good either. Adding more oil to the scalp, will lead to more dandruff.
If your skin is dry, here are 8 effective ways to treat it.
1. Say goodbye to hot showers
As ridiculous as it may sound, long showers actually rob your skin of moisture, especially if the water is steaming hot. Hot water dries out your skin. This is because it strips it off its protective oils. So, either get used to showering in lukewarm water, or limit your bath time to 10 minutes tops.
2. Hands off the soap
Most soap brands that are out there aren’t good for dry skin, as their content is high in lye. When taking a shower or a bath, or even just washing your hands, use your favorite moisturizing bath lotion or cream.
After taking a bath, pat yourself down with a towel leaving your skin somewhat damp, and apply moisturizing body lotion and a moisturizing face cream right away. This way you’ll be able to “lock” moisture in your skin and leave it looking soft and nourished.
You can also use mineral oil, or petroleum jelly, which work just fine, if you don’t want to spend money on high priced creams and lotions.
Question: What is the BEST moisturizing body lotion? I don't use lotion all that often, and my skin sometimes get dry spots. So i'm wondering what lotion is really good for dry skin.
Answer:: Aveeno botdy Lotion is great for dry skin it makes the skin soft. St Ives Oatmeal body lotion is great cheap works. Nivea Lotion are greaT Ive a few they work great.
4. Watch your diet
What you eat plays a major role in the way your skin looks and feels like. Try and eat more fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin A and B – they are good for your skin. Also enrich your diet with whole grains, which are also good for skin problems. Eat lots of nuts, seeds, fish, and switch to olive oil, because it’s really important to get enough of “good” fats.
5. Easy on the coffee
Caffeine is going to dehydrate your skin, so try to step away from that delicious macchiato! If you want your skin to look healthy and radiant, switch to decaf and decrease your caffeine intake altogether.
6. Say no to alcohol
Alcohol, like caffeine, is a diuretic, so it has the same effect on your skin.
7. Drink lots of water
Drinking enough water daily is what’s going to make your skin more hydrated, and is even more important than applying all those expensive moisturizing creams.
8. Get a humidifier
A humid environment is good for our skin, that’s why the crisp winter air dries it out in no time.
Question: What do you think of Lacura Moisturizing Body Lotion? It is a Aldi product. I use the Aldi skincare line it is great and affordable, but I haven't tried the body lotion.
Answer:: its a very subtle product and its not too overpowering. you can use that, AND wear a fragrance over it w/out an odd combination of smell
Also, indoors, the air tends to be up to 20 percent less humid than the perfect 30 percent humidity level our skin craves. So, if you’re up for it, why not invest in a humidifier, it will do you good, especially in the winter.

Can the right pH have a positive effect on skin? Let’s find out!
photos: we heart this
I am always on a quest for skincare. Change is good after all, if you keep doing the same things you will get the same results and then you may never improve. Winston Churchill said “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” I found a company that has been around for decades and it has made me re-think everything I do.
Let me introduce you to Sebamed , a German skin care company developed by a dermatologist. This company believes that products should aim to maintain a neutral 5.5 ph to keep the skin happy and healthy so it can heal itself. There are 150 studies to confirm that their philosophy works.
You may be asking “what’s ph?” This site explains it well, but basically it’s a scale that measures how acidic something is. Pure water is neutral, with a pH of 7.0. Less than 7 is acidic. Sebamed is a pH of 5.5 to match the hydrolipid film (called the acid mantle) on the surface of the skin which is slightly acidic (pH 5.5).
I will be honest, their philosophy had me a bit mystified because I have been self diagnosing my skin for years based on how my skin is reacting in various climates – and have a rainbow of products to prove it.
Question: Can anyone recommend a good moisturizing body lotion? It's normal for me, but it's never been quite this bad. What's the best moisturizing lotion you've used. What will help me get my skin back to normal (and not lizard-like).
Answer:: for the first couple of days, you may want to use some vaseline or bag balm, and then after, i would use Aveeno lotion with shea butter. Or anything with shea butter, really.
Could I have been sabotaging myself all of this time?
It is unusual for me to devote myself to an entire “system” for an extended period of time and lock out everything else. I usually use a variety of brands for a bunch of different uses since I have combination skin. You name a product I can probably give you my rationale of WHY I have used it. But, I really wanted to give these products a fair shake and see overall if trying to maintain my skin at a 5.5 pH had an effect.
The Eczema & Sensitive Skin Care System ( $51.96 ) is made especially for sensitive “special needs” skin that is red, itchy, flaky or dry and includes four products, the Liquid Face & Body Wash, the Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Cream, a Hand & Nail balm and the Moisturizing Body Lotion.
I have told everyone before, I love a good multitasker product because it simplifies my life. I found the gentle Liquid Face & Body Wash had a very positive effect and seemed to bring everything into balance. This stuff may smell like nothing you have ever smelled before, I found it is sort of herbal medicinal.
Question: What is a great, inexpensive body moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin and does not contain mineral oil? What is a great, inexpensive body moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin and does not contain mineral oil or alcohol. My skin is quite acne prone and tends to break out when using any moisturizers containing oils.
Answer:: Most lotions that are natural will cost more than the moisturizers that do not, for obvious reasons. Another is Alba extra emollient body lotion. Personally, I feel that oils are better if you want to moisturize the skin. Virgin coconut oil is natural and should not cause acne and hazelnut oil is for acne prone skin.
Best of all, this wash has a ton of uses – I found it to be superior as a makeup remover, shaving cream, body wash and face wash. I even have used it to clean makeup brushes. Who would not like one bottle for six possible uses? It also worked great with my Clarisonic.
The Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Cream is very concentrated. A very small amount goes a very long way. It also reminded me of a very high-end facial moisturizer. This was a bit too moisturizing for me to use morning and night, so I used it as needed. I also used this as my eye cream during this test period twice a day with no irritation.
I was a bit skeptical if the Hand and Nail Balm would really work. I am hard on my hands as an avid gardener and my nails are not usually in great condition as a result. The quality of my nails really did improve.
This balm and the Moisturizing Body Lotion worked amazingly well in harmony. Both products nourished well and soaked in quickly but were not greasy.
Question: does anyone know a healthy moisturizing lotion and body wash? does anyone know any healthy moisturizing body lotion and cleansers i can buy at like wal*mart or target.
Answer:: Cocoa Butter works the best. I use this brand: http://www. com/ALBA-BOTANICA/Hawaiian-Cocoa-Butter-Hand-Body-Lotion/7-oz. html and for body wash I use this:. http://www. com/JASON-NATURAL-PRODUCTS/Cocoa-Butter-Nourishing-Body-Scrub/6-oz.
And overall (and all over) my skin does feel healthier, smoother and best of all no dry sensitive itchy areas.
• Products are extremely mild and soap-free
• Great Value
• Environmentally conscious -Nearly 100% Biodegradable
• Cruelty Free
• The quality of my skin (face and body) did improve with less redness and sensitivity
• Scent may not be for everyone
• No SPF
Now, let me answer the question . . . Have I been self sabotaging when I have been using my rainbow of products for combination skin? In truth, I probably have . . . going from acne to combination to dry skin products had to have had a very poor effect on my skin’s protective barrier. I am now a die hard neutral pH convert.
Readers – Has anyone ever used products from Sebamed? Testers – are you now a pH convert too?
I received Sebamed’s Eczema & Sensitive Skin Care System to test.
